START Parent Leadership Development

Parents Learn to speak up, take action and create change in their communities!

START-PLD offers Parent Leadership Development for parents of children ages birth to 8-years old who are ready and willing to be a voice for children and families in their County Councils for Young Children. The workshop series will focus on three areas:

Public Policy Advocacy will discuss ways to be informed and effective in advocating for programs and policies that positively impact young children and their families;

Serving on Groups (SOG) will help parents to understand how decision-making groups operate so that the can maximize their effectiveness and impact as they serve on County Councils for Young Children and other decision-making bodies (i.e. SICCs, local and state special education advocacy and advisory groups, local and state bi-lingual education, Title I and Early Childhood advisory groups, etc.)

Action Planning will teach parents to bring together a team, group or committee and plan and implement strategies to impact programs and policies

**Certificates will be issued at the end of the training upon completion of all three sections. **
